Summer learning packs have been set to support children in continuing to read and practise key maths and writing skills over the holidays. There are also ideas linked to our themes for next term and outdoor exploration. 

The activities are not compulsory as we know that there are many ‘fun’ ways to incorporate reading, writing and maths into the holiday period -from calculating scores in games to following instructions in recipes!!

So please just enjoy your holidays and use the ideas when needed. 

In light of today’s school closure, you may wish to use some of the activities for home learning.

Yesterday the whole school had great fun outside all day – we danced, played, competed and got wet!! Here are two videos to give you a little snippet of all fun we had….

Your homework this week, has to be football related…! 

🎶 Learn the National Anthem and sing it with pride at 8pm on Sunday evening

🎤 Annoy your friends and family by saying (or even better, singing) ‘it’s coming home’ every 5 minutes all weekend

😴  Stay up way past your bed time and watch England v Italy – even if it goes to extra time and penalties

📸 Post a match photo on seesaw so we can see you in all your football/party glory!

On Wednesday, ahead of England’s Euro 2020 clash with Denmark we all had great fun coming to school in our football shirts and England colours.

This week we have begun to look at the country of Japan as part of our work on Volcanoes and Earthquakes.

For homework this week, can you find out some interesting facts about Japan?

Maybe you could find out about their lifestyle or sport in the country, perhaps you could make a list of popular food or find out about the Olympics that is going to happen later this month. I can’t wait to see what you find out on seesaw. Here is my interesting fact to start us off…

As part of our theme work we had great fun researching and designing earthquake proof structures ourselves. We then had even more fun making and testing them!

Today the whole school worked on a Zero Waste Day. In Class 3 we used the story ‘Here comes the Garbage Barge’ to explore what zero waste means. If you would like to watch the story, please click below….

We completed activities linked to the story and talked lots about what we should do instead.

We also completed a reuse challenge to turn a carrier bag into something else. We had lots of creative ideas.

Finally, we made our own landfill container to show what happens to our rubbish.

For homework, I would like you to spread the recycle, reuse and reduce message…perhaps you could make a poster or video to show how important this really is.

This week we have begun to look at instruction writing. We enjoyed following instructions and identifying the features found in this text type.

For homework, I would like you to find some instructions at home to follow. It could be anything, for example, a game, a recipe or a construction kit.

This afternoon, we have had great fun creating chemical reaction volcanoes. We predicted, discussed and observed!! We were amazed at the results.

For your half term challenge, I would like you to have some similar fun at home. Can you make a volcano or mountain range and then explode it! You may need to search the internet for ideas.

I can’t wait to see your experiments on seesaw! Have fun but be careful!!
