Evacuee Day (Homework 15.10.21)

Firstly I must say how fab all the children looked today…thank you so much for helping with costumes etc. We have had a fab day exploring items from World War Two, comparing  suitcases, looking at lives of children evacuated during WW2 and even VISITING an air raid shelter.

We had some fantastic discussions about what the evacuees would have taken and the reasons for this. We talked about the types of games they might have played and the toys they might have packed. We discussed that there would have been no logos on clothing and how many items of clothing were mended rather than buying new.

For homework this week, I would like you to design a suitcase and consider the contents that an evacuee would pack.

This could be done as a labelled drawing, packing a real suitcase with items or even making your own suitcase and filling it with items. I can’t wait to see what you choose to do.

Please upload your photographs to seesaw. Please ensure all homework is completed by Friday 22nd October so we can share them before half term.

Our Forest School Day

Wow Class 3, what great fun we had on Thursday at Barff House – we hunted, we built dens, made mazes, completed natural artwork, ate baked potatoes and smores and just had a brilliant time together!!! It was lovely to see everyone together out of school, laughing and enjoying themselves.

On Friday, a very tired Class 3 spent time looking at ALL the photos and we started making a display for the corridor….I will post a photo as soon as it is finished…In the meantime here are a few photos of our fun!!

Homework – 8.10.21 – As we have had a busy week with our trip and because last week’s homework was completed so well, I am not going to issue any official homework this week. However, I still expect all children to read at least 3 times and also practice spellings of the common exception words. Remember, there are lots of spelling 2dos set on purple mash if you wish to complete them. Class dojo points will be awarded for reading and spellings, so get busy!!!

Science – Solids, Liquids and Gases (Homework 1.10.21)

This week in Science, we have been building on our knowledge of solids, liquids and gases. We used lemonade and raisins to explore the effects of gas. Have a look at our photos to see how we observed the raisins to see them ‘dancing’ in the lemonade….

Homework – This week I would like you to explore solids, liquids and gases at home. I have added an activity to seesaw for you to complete. Perhaps you may also want to try our raisin experiment at home? I wonder if it works the same with Coke or Tango? Does it work with other items similar to raisins?

Exploring Place Value (Homework 24.9.21)

Over the past two weeks we have had great fun exploring place value and the children have worked so hard to develop an understanding of hundreds, tens and ones. The year 3s have worked with 3 digit numbers and the year 4s have begun to tackle 4 digit numbers!

We have accessed websites, made base 10 pictures, made place value butterflies, played bingo, dominoes and different board games and even been on a number hunt – all based around how numbers are made up. Well done to those people who also completed extra work at home on seesaw!

For homework this week, I would like you to explain place value to someone at home. Can you partition some 3 or 4 digit numbers? You could use paper and draw your numbers or can you use some apparatus to make some numbers at home. Perhaps you could use some food?! Maybe crackers for 100s, breadsticks for 10s and raisins for 1s? Maybe jelly snakes for tens and mini marshmallows for ones. Or maybe leaves, sticks and stones from outside?

Please upload some photos to your seesaw account so we can share all your fab ideas. Have fun!

Weekly Round Up!

We have had another fab week in Class 3.

On Wednesday we had an amazing English lesson completing some drama linked to our story ‘The Lion and the Unicorn’. I was so impressed with the children’s ideas. We filmed each piece of acting and I plan to spend some time over the weekend adding them to seesaw – make sure you check them out!

We also worked hard learning how to use an atlas and finding out the countries involved in World War Two. We enjoyed recapping the continents using the song below.

Earlier in the week, we also had some great ideas linked to Internet Safety. We enjoyed playing board games, writing rules and exploring the website below. Check out the link to show someone at home how the site works and how you can use the internet safely.

Spelling (Homework 17.9.21)

Spelling – This week we have focused on making sure we can spell the common exception words from year 1 and 2. We have used different spelling games and purple mash to help us learn some of the trickier spellings. Please spend some time this week (and every week) learning some of the spellings. Perhaps you could write your spellings in sand or use playdough to make the letters. Maybe you could type them on the computer or just write some with a pencil. Like we talked about in class, first we need to focus on the year 1/2 words that we still find tricky before moving onto the year 3/4 words.

Please remember, if spelling out the words verbally, we need to use letter names not sounds.

Below are both the year 1/2 and the year 3/4 words.

Please upload any work to seesaw so that I can see all your hard work!
