Class 3 Blog

On Friday, Class 3 were very busy interviewing Miss Northen to find out more about our new Headteacher. We wrote some very interesting questions from finding out her favourite flower, her celebrity crush and whether she would rather be eaten by a crocodile or sat on by a hippo! (it was the hippo by the way!!)

Class 3 worked hard to complete piccollages to show some of her favourite things and also completed some ‘Did you know’ paragraphs of writing. Finally, we displayed our work in the corridor for everyone to see.

We look forward to finding out much more about Miss Northen over the next few weeks.

I was really impressed with the children’s work on writing riddles linked to their Christmas presents this week. We had great fun trying to solve each others, I wonder if you can solve the ones below?

The children have made a great start to the Spring Term…I have been busy making our classroom look fab, changing displays and introducing our new theme ‘Coasts to Canals’. If anyone has any resources please send them in with your child. Further information can be found on our newsletter which will be sent home, but I will also post it here in case anyone misplaces it.

Sorry this wasn’t posted sooner but with all the chaos of Christmas and Mrs Ledingham leaving, time just ran away with me! I was so proud of all the children in the Christmas Play and everyone enjoyed Christmas Dinner, the Rudolph Run and our Christmas Party. It was lovely to see the children enjoying ‘normal’ things again!

We have had another very busy week in Class 3. Money and addition has continued to be the focus in Maths. In English we have written some fab descriptions, begun to explore using speech punctuation and finished reading “The Lion and the Unicorn’. We have also looked at propaganda in our theme work, completed some fab gymnastics work and built on our hockey skills.

Yesterday, we had fun in Science, exploring how fast we could melt an ice cube – which do you think would be quickest, in water, sugar, salt, our hands or the microwave?

Homework

For homework this week, I would like you to do some internet research to link to our computing work and our theme work.

I would like you to choose one of the following subjects linked to World War Two and see what you can find out about it. Perhaps you could write some facts down, make a poster or make a picollage of images and facts linked to your idea.

This week we have enjoyed exploring jobs and money during our whole school ‘Money’ week. We talked lots about the jobs we want to do when we grow up and how we spend money. We were quite shocked to find out how much money is spent on food, cars, water and bills.

For homework this week, I would like you to explore money some more. Perhaps you could help with the weekly shop and look carefully at how much things cost. Maybe you could price up your Christmas List. I have also added two activities to seesaw to continue to build up our money skills.

I can’t wait to see what you get busy with.

Well done to everyone who completed their rationing recipes – your finished products looked very yummy – I wonder how many of you cleaned up afterwards!!

I loved this photo of Josh and the concentration on his face – I must say his Cottage Pie looked so well presented at the end – it could have been served in a restaurant!!

This week in Maths, we have been looking at 2D and 3D shapes. We have explored the number of sides, corners, faces, edges and vertices.

For homework this week I would like you to see what shapes you can find around your home or outside and take some photographs/do some drawings. Can you then label them to tell me the name and the properties of the shape?

Perhaps you could go one step further and make some 3D shapes with things around your home? Have a look at the ideas below. I can wait to see what you an create. Remember to label all your shapes and their properties and upload your work to seesaw for us all to share.

I wonder if you will see any shapes in the sky from the fireworks you might watch – if you do go to firework display or a bonfire have fun and stay safe!

Well Class 3, we have made it to half term! We have been so busy, setting routines, learning new things and building our team – I am so proud of everyone of you!

This week we have finished writing some amazing letters in the role of ‘Lenny’ from our English text, ‘The Lion and the Unicorn’, we have worked hard on adding BIG numbers using column addition and completed some brilliant work to explore colour for our whole school art week.

Homework – After half term we are going to continue our work on World War 2 and explore rationing. For homework, over the holidays, I would like you to try out a recipe used during WW2. Read and discuss the recipes with an adult and see which you think will be tastiest!

It would be great if you could include photographs of your making process and the finished products! I can’t wait to see what you choose to create!

If non of these take your fancy, for an extra challenge, maybe you could search the internet for a recipe of your own.

Have a brilliant half term – if you need an idea for a day out, Eden Camp is a fab place to explore and extend your learning.

Firstly I must say how fab all the children looked today…thank you so much for helping with costumes etc. We have had a fab day exploring items from World War Two, comparing  suitcases, looking at lives of children evacuated during WW2 and even VISITING an air raid shelter.

We had some fantastic discussions about what the evacuees would have taken and the reasons for this. We talked about the types of games they might have played and the toys they might have packed. We discussed that there would have been no logos on clothing and how many items of clothing were mended rather than buying new.

For homework this week, I would like you to design a suitcase and consider the contents that an evacuee would pack.

This could be done as a labelled drawing, packing a real suitcase with items or even making your own suitcase and filling it with items. I can’t wait to see what you choose to do.

Please upload your photographs to seesaw. Please ensure all homework is completed by Friday 22^nd October so we can share them before half term.

Wow Class 3, what great fun we had on Thursday at Barff House – we hunted, we built dens, made mazes, completed natural artwork, ate baked potatoes and smores and just had a brilliant time together!!! It was lovely to see everyone together out of school, laughing and enjoying themselves.

On Friday, a very tired Class 3 spent time looking at ALL the photos and we started making a display for the corridor….I will post a photo as soon as it is finished…In the meantime here are a few photos of our fun!!

Homework – 8.10.21 – As we have had a busy week with our trip and because last week’s homework was completed so well, I am not going to issue any official homework this week. However, I still expect all children to read at least 3 times and also practice spellings of the common exception words. Remember, there are lots of spelling 2dos set on purple mash if you wish to complete them. Class dojo points will be awarded for reading and spellings, so get busy!!!
